What you need to sign up, and why we ask for it.

You'll need a name, a username, an email address, a phone number, a date of birth (DesiFam is for members 18 and up) and a password. We verify your phone with a one-time code before your account is created — that's what keeps listings and messages coming from real people. You can verify your email any time after (the dashboard reminds you); until you do, we send nothing to it except that code.
We also ask for your country and your postal code or city at signup. That's just a mailing/default address, separate from the "home area" you set in the header — see Setting your home area below for the one that actually controls what you see.
